Ratbee Press is a teeny-tiny, eco-friendly letterpress shop, mountain side, river side, in Alexander. We are handmade, for handwriters. The shop started in 2012 when artist Sally Anne Morgan began apprenticing with Innerer Klang press in the River Arts District, and acquired her first press of her own. Now Ratbee prints and sells thousands of letterpress cards each month, all designed by Sally and printed by her and her studio assistant, Charlie Boss. Each piece of paper is printed one at a time, one color at a time, on lovingly preserved vintage presses.
Ratbee draws on the cultural dissonance of creatures our society simultaneously adores and regards as pests: mice, possums, dandelions, and of course, the rat. Combining these illustrations with appropriate text for a greeting card is the terrain we navigate. We hope to evoke and intrigue, as well as connect. What is nature, and are we not nature too?
Sally is also a working musician. Her most recent music can be found at bandcamp, as well as all major streaming sites. She plays with several bands, including Black Twig Pickers and House and Land.
